Snow Boots and Winter Boots

  • Sharebar

Most people easily confuse snow boots with winter boots. Although both are designed to keep feet warm during cold weather, they are not actually the same. Winter boots are more of the “general use” type while snow boots are specialized boots made for snow as well as wet conditions. The waterproofing ability of snow boots is definitely far superior.

While winter boots can be comfortably worn by people performing simple tasks in winter such as shoveling the sidewalk, walking, commuting or driving, snow boots are made for much heavier tasks. Snow boots are bulkier than winter boots for a reason. Quality snow boots generally have a rubber bottom to provide one hundred percent waterproofing protection. The upper part of the boots usually extends well above the ankle to accommodate a built-in snow gator of some kind which effectively prevents snow from falling down inside when walking through deep snow. They should be worn with the proper sock combination or else the feet can become wet due to foot perspiration that cannot escape through the lower rubber shell of the boots.

People who spend considerable time outdoors in winter stand to benefit from the use of snow boots including farmers, ranchers, hunters, skiers and workers in construction projects highly exposed in mud, sleet and snow.
