Last Sunday was the Thanksgiving celebration of our little town. As what has been practiced each and every year, the day before that, the 3rd Saturday of February will mark the day of the Parade as part of the celebration. We were so looking forward to it and the girls are over excited to see brass bands in action.
We went early to my in-laws that day so we could have a better view of the parade. It started very late compared to the previews years. I am not sure if election has affected the totality of the parade theme but it seems that was the case. The parade was a bit of disappointment. Each year, you will normally see all the barangays properly arranged, each with their own themes and bands to showcase the barangay’s prosperity and how the year has been to them. This year, was very unorganized. Instead of colorful brass bands, there were a lot of people in the parade – all wearing candidates supporter shirts. It was not a parade after all.
There have been a few traditions that were not removed though, like inviting celebrities over, ati-atihan, drum and lyre and the ever popular motor stunts by the motoclubs. I am getting nervous each and every time I get to watch them. I even wanted to offer them online life insurance so they can rest assured they are covered. And I was like – are they not afraid of their lives anymore? With a little space and with all those curious people around, it is even more complicated to do it. Good thing, they are all still in one piece after that.
I will post pictures next time, the computer is acting weird and hubby haven’t uploaded them yet.
