When did you start showing books to your child? Are you reading them stories even when they are still babies? Do you just love giving them coloring books?
As early as when my daughters are able to sit, I started showing them books with different shapes, numbers, colors, everything. At 3 months, they started watching baby shows like Brainy Baby and Little Einsteins. They were very educational I must say. When the kids turned 1, I started giving them coloring books. We also gave them non-toxic crayons that they can play along with those books. At first, they just color the whole page and nothing comes much out of it but you know as they learned each shape, they started copying the drawings and then later, we realized they were able to properly color the pictures.
We then started giving them number books. And thought them how to count. They learned to count until 100 at the age of 2. I really couldn’t believe how they did it but they just did. Of course, it wouldn’t be possible without guidance. We just give them more and more things that will give them motivation to continue learning.
Are you having a difficult time getting your child to like books? Here are some tips:
1. Get their interest – don’t just give them anything. If they don’t like it at first it doesn’t mean they will not like it forever. Think of what the child like at present and start building rapport with your child.
2. Studying should be a habit – in my opinion, studying should be a habit. It should not be a task. Learn how to deal with your child’s study habits and try helping them in every way possible. Do not just command them to do it.
3. Be supportive – your child will even love what he/she is doing if you are there to guide them.
Hope this helps.
